Statement
Rocks, graffiti on a wall, raindrops on dry earth, and ocean patterns
are some
of the things that inspire me to paint. I want to capture visual and sensual
experiences and make my impressions tangible to the viewer.
My paintings are on wood panels with multiple layers of acrylic
paint and collage materials. Washes of pigment are applied;
then drawing, scoring, and abrasions of the surface are integrated,
until they are distilled and infused with physical presence.
Often my paintings are close up views of a subject; other times
I look from
a distance. Either way, I most often find patterns and relationships along
the way
that interest me, letting the painting develop organically.
Balance being an important part of my work, I try to capture it
when I can. When a painting can take on multiple meanings,
I feel pleasantly pleased and surprised. I rarely set out to make
a particular statement.
The process of painting has become a necessary part of my being.
Painting has the effect of opening my mind, body, and soul, enabling
me to explore and communicate with the world.
