Artist Statement
Emily Payne creates site-specific installations, sculpture, and works on paper based on delicate wire forms and the shadows they cast. She also draws inspiration from taking apart used objects such as books and shoes, transforming them from multiple angles beyond their utilitarian function. She works with materials that gain dimensionality and motion when paired with the elements – water, light and air – as she seeks to animate the works in physical space.
